The musical text is adapted from a 15th-century enameled terra-cotta by Andrea Robbia. (Florence, Museo Nazionale) The two angels are adapted from a 14th-century manuscript illumination. (London, British Library, Royal MS 2B, vii, fol. 168b) The church is adapted from a 13th-century model of St. Nicaise carved on a tombstone in Reims Cathedral, France, by its architect, Huges Libergier. The wyvern is adapted from a 14th-century manuscript illumination. (Florence, Biblioteca Nazionale) The four different borders are adapted from the 12th-century Shrine of St. Manchan in Ireland.

Materials and Techniques

You may use any even weave fabric such as Aida cloth or linen. The threads are DMC floss. Stitching uses whole cross-stitches and backstitches. Use black to stitch the lute strings and the staves of the musical notes. Use 726 Topaz-LT around the capital G and for the stars. The number of floss strands you use for backstitching will depend on the size of fabric and your personal tastes. You may wish to fill in the blanks in the borders with white, or you may leave them unstitched.
