The elephant-bird drollery is adapted from a 13th-century English tile from Chertsey Abbey in Surrey. (London, British Museum) The alphabet is Gothic Textura Quadrata adapted from a 13th-15th-century German brocaded tabletwoven band. (Lübeck, Museum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte, M 213)
Materials and Techniques
You can use any even weave fabric such as Aida cloth or linen. The threads are DMC floss. Only whole cross-stitches are used.
